This boy has been almost one year in the making. Last year, Marie led a group of us in instruction to make a 16″ waldorf doll. We all followed the same pattern and met once a week for a month or so. I finished everything but the hair, face, and clothes (that means I only got his body sewn and stuffed!) and then he sat, and sat, and sat… WELL, he is officially finished and was packaged up just in time for Nathan’s 4th birthday on the 18th of August. As you will see from the pictures, he is MUCH more interested in the wooden pop-guns. Natalie said, “Until he gets used to the doll I will play with him!”. Each night since his birthday she has been sleeping with him. The blue knitted blanket was another UFO (unfished object) I had started before Nathan was born, intended for him….:)

There will be a longer post here soon. For now, just this, an inkling of the idea to remind me.
“Our culture invariably supposes that action and accomplishment is better than rest, that doing something–anything–is better than doing nothing. Because of our desire to succeed, to meet these ever-growing expectations, we do not rest. Because we do not rest, we lose our way. We miss the compass points that would show us where to go, we bypass the nourishment that would give us succor. We miss the quiet that would give us wisdom. We miss the joy and love born of effortless delight. Poisoned by this hypnotic belief that good things come only through unceasing determination and tireless effort, we can never truly rest. And for want of rest, our lives are in danger.”

Now, REALLY!

It is afternoons like this that take the load off my shoulders as a mother. Give a child some simple supplies and they will create stunning art, silly contraptions and functional works of imagination. Really!!
Put out a box of any kind/size of paper, something to make marks on it with, scissors, glue, tape, etc….sit back and see what happens. They will entertain themselves just fine, thank you!
I believe this is a cat motel and swimming pool.
Refreshments?
